Kyoto Insight Tours was created by Laura and Tatsuya — combining the perspective of a long-term international resident with the local knowledge of a Kyoto native.
Originally from the UK, Laura came to Japan over 26 years ago and built a life here from the ground up. Over the years, her love of exploring Japan by motorcycle led her deep into the quieter corners of Kyoto and the surrounding countryside — places that many visitors would never normally encounter.
Living in Japan for so long while still seeing it through the eyes of a foreign visitor gives her a unique understanding of the challenges and uncertainties travellers often face when visiting Kyoto for the first time.
Born and raised in Arashiyama, Tatsuya brings lifelong local knowledge and a deep appreciation for Kyoto’s food culture, cafés, hidden neighbourhoods, and lesser-known spots. As a certified Travel Services Manager, he combines practical expertise with a genuine desire to help international visitors experience the best of his home city in a relaxed and meaningful way.
Together, Laura and Tatsuya created Kyoto Insight Tours to offer a calmer, more thoughtful approach to exploring Kyoto — combining local insight, careful planning, and the reassurance of working with a fully licensed travel agency.
